HONDA CANADA TEAMS UP WITH KIDS HELP PHONE
Posted on May 2, 2023
From laid off workers to students who are trying learning at a distance; this year has definitely left its mark on the people of Canada. That’s why Honda Canada Foundation (HCF) has partnered with Kids Help Phone to help support kids who are in crisis. This new Back to School program, with funds donated from HCF (Honda Canada Foundation), will ensure that young Canadians will have access to trusted support services.
When the pandemic first hit in March, HCF strategized what resources they could give for the community. Together, they have given PPE equipment to front line workers and made sure local communities had enough food to feed the hungry. However, Honda Canada Foundation has switched from emergency mode to look at the long-term effects this pandemic will have on the community. One ongoing issue is students who are worried about going back to school this year, whether it’s returning to the classroom or continuing to learn at home.
A recent survey by Kids Help Phone showed that 1 in 3 students are experiencing distress in having to return to the classroom. This Back to School program will provide students and educators resources online throughout September and October as students return to school. Kids Help Phone’s goal is to make sure that everyone is prepared for the return to classrooms by offering tools that they will need to thrive. Resources offered include Counsellor in the Classroom for elementary school students, Good2Talk for post-secondary school students and back-to-school checklists, tips and additional toolkits for educators.
“The Foundation has pivoted several times since the pandemic began, to adapt to changing needs, and provide support for services required in our communities,” says Tony Facciolo, Chair of the Honda Canada Foundation. “We know the past few months have had an impact on everyone’s mental wellbeing, including our children, where many have been in isolation at home. Through this partnership, our goal is to ensure that young people have access to professional counsellors and crisis responders during these times of uncertainty.”
This partnership is part of HCF’s ongoing efforts to help with the pandemic response. Honda is working to support customers, associates, and business partners throughout North America while also assisting the local communities in delivering vital PPE and essential nutrition to those who need it most. Honda Canada Foundation has donated over $600,000 in the local communities around Canada as part of its COVID-19 emergency relief efforts.
As part of the Honda family, we firmly believe it will take all of us in the community to come together to help each other get over this crisis. If you can help or need help, please visit the Honda Canada Foundation website to see how you can help your community or find assistance.
